What advice would you give me on getting this guitar sound (in regards to equipment and mixing – panning, eq, compression, limiting, digital clipping?, number of tracks etc.)? I was listening to a friends mix the other day, and it seemed to me that I could hear the bass track in the left ear in the mix, I’ve always been told bassy sounding instruments need to be in the middle to give it time to develop.

Hi there! This is my first post, I’ve gone through endless threads looking for answers, but haven’t found answers to all my questions confoosed My budget is around $3000 AU ($2,600 US) for monitors and an audio interface. I mainly produce electronic music (DnB, Psytrance & Chillout) and don’t do much recording yet. I will be working on a Mac using Ableton Live 8, Reason 4, and either Pro Tools or Logic (don’t mind which I use)

I’m afraid double bass just isn’t for me and this wasn’t a good “experiment.” Frankly I have more opportunities on electric bass & guitar and not enough time in the day to learn a new instrument.

Attack times on bass

To me there’s two sides of the attacktime on bass. If i end up at approx 90 ms I think the bass sound great but that it takes over the mix and lands in fron of everything
