Okay, so I know this question is hated on this forum. The "How do i get this sound" question, especially with guitars, but i think this question involves alot more discusion then that! The tone I'm looking at is the guitar tone on Ronnie Day's Outside (it appears on his album "The Album" a couple times but this is just the best example.) To my ear the guitars are really thin and panned hard left and right, but for some reason the fill out so much of the mix, I'm convinced that wasnt done with synths or keyboards too much. The guitar is felt! Do you think it's a layering technique or is there some kind of frequency push?
