Steve Shelley Snare Drum?

Steve Shelley’s (of sonic youth) snare sound on last 5 or 6 albums has become my favorite snare sound of all time. SY are usually very good about disclosure as far as what gear/tunings they use….but I can’t find anything on Steve’s snare.

Attached is a short sample of a vox recording I just did. The recording chain is simple: Quiet Room (less than NC20) RE-20 FMR RNP (phantom turned off) RME Multiface I’ve read the RNP is a bit noisy, and the RE-20 does demand quite a bit of gain. Is the noise in this recording about what you’d expect, or do I have a bad component somewhere?
