Heres an amazing technical drawing to show you what goes where and why: I only ever get 50/60hz hum when the AT4040 is plugged in and phantom power switched on and only from the mic. If I touch the XLR metal plugs the hum diminishes dramatically. The same goes for touching the metal rack face of the TC Konnekt.

Just found out that one of my friend’s dad is an acoustical engineer who runs an industrial noise control business. We were using their workshop/warehouse for a band rehearsal and so I got to have a peek at some of the stuff they make. Turns out they were working on a batch of very nice looking industrial-grade absorption panels…
