10 at 10?
May 9, 2010 Recording
I heard a rumor that you liked to track things “10 at 10″ i.e. +10 dB at 10K when going to tape. In another thread, Brian Roth asked about noise floor on your recordings, and if this is true, I’m sure it could have a lot to do with it (for those unfamiliar, you can always roll off the top if you don’t need which turns down hiss, and you don’t have to add as much, if any top and additional hiss for dull elements).

"You need x piece of gear to sound good"

I refuse to believe all of you feel like a preamp or a DA converter took your recordings to a brand new horizon. I’m a firm believer in “using what you got”, and honestly, I’ve never really heard anything on this website that has wowed me, except for the bigger producers. I’m beginning to feel like all of you high end only folks really don’t know how to use your gear, and just become elitists merely based on the fact that you own a 3000$ compressor, which someone can receive similar results using a free plugin
