How to get a stadium choir effect?

..except for the obvious choice (getting a stadium choir, that is heh) There’s lots of records that have the background vocals sung with a stadium-like sounding choir (e.g. Elbow, Travis), and I just can’t imagine they actually went out beforehand with new material and taught a stadium crowd to sing it in the right tempo, key, etc.

Books on Tape Mic and Engineering

My background is mixing and engineering music professionally, but got a books on tape gig. Has anyone had much experience? Would I use a typical vocal mic(U87, c800g) or more of a broadcast mic(re20).
