What are the issues with using a FireWire interface with multiple hardware inserts

Hi guys I’ve been hearing on the grapevine that FireWire interfaces are slightly unsuitable when mixing in the box and using hardware inserts. I am running logic 9 and plan to upgrade my interface/ converters so I can run my external gear for tracking and mixing.

Currently, I use my internal sata hard drive for stuff I’m working on at the moment, and an external usb hard drive as a “warehouse,” moving recording sessions there I’m not working on, then moving them back to the internal when I work on them… you get the picture. I was wondering if anyone uses ssd ’solid state’ hard drives and notices an increase in performance.

My sequencing & recording setup currently consists of a a PC running Cubase SX and an M-Audio Profire 2626. Ok, my problem is as follows… If I record an audio track in Cubase then send it out of the Profire and back in onto a separate track the timing is always inconsistent
