fastest compressor/limiter?
May 10, 2010 Recording
all the sidechaining threads that seem to have popped up lately have gotten me thinking, which analog comp in your opinion maintains the best quality when your A/R is at extremely quick settings? in that same vein i also wanted to ask the community, what are the different ways you like to process signals to compensate for the envelopes not snapping to attention fast enough? gain automation comes to mind, you could also layer your sounds in a step-sequence style chronologically (or resample them in that same manner, i suppose), etc etc..

I heard a stumper question today
May 8, 2010 Recording
A coworker asked my opinion on a moderate priced digital piano. That was easy, I told him to look into a Yamaha P-85. Feeling smug, he wondered if he could ask me a second question: How could he convert a collection of piano roll music he inherited into digital files?

So I was Bored
…and decided to record this song that my brother always wanted me to record. It’s “Where did you sleep last night” as interpreted by Nirvana.

What Kind Equipment Do You Use for Both Recording and Band Rehearsal?
Id’ appreciate your opinion on the best type of interface/mixer for doing band rehearsals and music recording on a computer? It’d be nice to have a setup that’s user-friendly for being able to record and do rehearsal when recording isn’t needed. I have a 4 piece band – bass, drums, guitar and vocals.

what makes some seq’s with "swing" magic while others aren’t? srsly
May 7, 2010 Recording
So, I’ve encountered the opinion here or there, that a particular sequencer or drum machine or the like has really swingin’ swing, i.e. it gets in the pocket better than some other groove box that also technically has a swing parameter.

Chandler Germanium as mix bus compressor
May 6, 2010 Recording
Hey everyone, The comps can be hard work on some things, but man o man, they are exceptional on the mix bus in my opinion. I believe it is a combination of the compression action on those Germ soft and med knee settings mixed with those lovely germanium amps that seem to open a mix and create a great glue effect without washiness
