Optimizing Local Search

Have you tried Googling for pizza in your town recently? If you frequent the organic rankings like yours truly, you’ve noticed that between paid advertisements and the local business results, the ‘true’ organic rankings are appearing beneath the fold (Which means they don’t exist right?). So, it looks like unless you’re Bazbeaux’s, (which I might add has the best pizza in town), it’s pretty tough going for you.

BP’s Google AdWords Ad Goes Against Display URL Guidelines

This is interesting, if you search for [oil spill] in Google, you should see an ad for BP. The display URL on that ad is www.BP.com/OilSpillClean but if you click on it, you are taken to YouTube.com and not BP.com….

China’s Baidu To Hire 30 Software Engineers On ‘Google Territory’

Google AdWords’ Discriminatory Behavior Needs Tweaking, French Regulator Says

Google AdWords was found to abuse its dominant position on the French market and ordered to clarify both its rules and processes for advertisers, after a complaint by location data company Navx was filed with the French Competition Body, Autorité de la Concurrence. Albeit an interim decision, the ruling is the first such in Europe against the search giant. So if you thought this was a day without Google in the news, think again.
