Google Making Location More Obvious, Prominent

I’m not seeing it exactly but Google has said the company is making location more “transparent” or more obvious to users so that they can control it and, presumably, offer better location information to Google for an improved overall experience.

Yahoo Copies Facebook Strategy with Y Connect

Google Brings Back Yelp Reviews in Updated Places Page

Over the weekend Google announced on their LatLong blog that they redesigned the look of the Places page. A couple of months ago we noticed that Google had removed Yelp reviews from search results, but were trying to find a way to work with the user generated review site to incorporate their content in Google search results. It appears that they have found a solution because in addtition to other sites, Yelp reviews are now back on Google.

Catastrophic Canonicalization

It boils down to this: “I accidentally canonicalized my entire site to one page, and my site was completely dropped from the index.” Although the evidence of rel-canonical going very wrong was overwhelming, I decided it was time to get some firsthand data in an effort to help people both avoid this problem and potentially fix it.
